Election Commissioner Mohammad Anwarul Islam has confirmed that the Election Commission (EC) is working towards holding the national election by December 2025.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the voter registration process at Nali Krishna Chandra High School in Shibaloy upazila, Manikganj, on Monday, Anwarul Islam called for the cooperation of political leaders and other stakeholders to ensure the election is fair and widely accepted.

"A fair election is crucial to meet the expectations of all parties involved. There is no turning back," he stressed.

Regarding ongoing electoral reforms, the commissioner assured that any changes would be made based on the consensus of political parties.

He also highlighted a significant update in the voter registration process: the removal of approximately 1.6 million deceased voters from the list. This action, part of a house-to-house voter registry update, is designed to prevent electoral manipulation.

Election Commission Secretary Mohammad Kamruzzaman, Dhaka Regional Election Officer Mohammad Yunus Ali, and Manikganj District Election Officer Mohammad Nazimuddin were also present during the inspection.
