As the 13th national parliamentary election looms, political momentum is steadily building across the country. While the Election Commission has yet to announce the official roadmap, pre-election campaigns are already gaining steam—particularly in constituencies like Patuakhali-3, comprising Dashmina and Galachipa upazilas.

Amid the growing political buzz, Hasan Mamun, a former student leader and a current member of the BNP's National Executive Committee, has emerged as the most popular and trusted face in the constituency. Party insiders and grassroots activists widely regard him as the frontrunner for the BNP nomination, citing his strong local connection and organisational strength.

Known as a loyal and dynamic figure within the BNP, Mamun enjoys the confidence of both grassroots members and senior leadership. He is considered a close and trusted associate of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. His political journey began with the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, where he once served as its successful president at the Dhaka University unit. His early rise in politics was marked by organisational discipline, strategic leadership, and grassroots mobilisation.

Locals describe him as approachable, humble, and action-oriented. His longstanding ties with BNP activists across every union of Dashmina and Galachipa have helped cement a strong party base in the area. His leadership style—rooted in respect for senior leaders, inspiration for youth, and a constant presence during crises—has made him a well-known and well-liked figure.

On the other hand, Gana Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has also announced his intention to run in Patuakhali-3. However, it remains uncertain whether he will ultimately contest the election from this constituency. His final decision is yet to be confirmed, keeping the political landscape fluid.

Outside formal politics, Mamun is also deeply involved in humanitarian and social welfare initiatives, which have particularly endeared him to younger voters. They see him as a symbol of integrity, capability, and hope.

His popularity surged further during the 2024 anti-authoritarian movement, where he emerged as one of the BNP's frontline leaders. Despite tight police surveillance and political repression, he remained active on the streets of Dhaka while also maintaining constant communication with his local base. His courage and calm leadership were praised for keeping grassroots activists energised and united during turbulent times.

Local BNP leaders say Mamun has consistently stood beside party activists during arrests, legal battles, and periods of political harassment. His availability and reliability have earned him the reputation of being a “guardian” for the BNP base in Patuakhali-3.

Recent internal opinion surveys reportedly placed him at the top of the list of preferred candidates. Many believe that if the BNP nominates him, he could secure a landslide victory, potentially setting a new vote-margin record for the constituency.

Speaking to this correspondent, Hasan Mamun said, “The people want me to contest in the next election. If my party places its trust in me, I am confident of a landslide victory, In Sha Allah. I am committed to working for the development of Dashmina and Galachipa.”

He added that he has been actively conveying Tarique Rahman's message and vision to the public, which has been positively received. Reaffirming his loyalty to the party’s central leadership, Mamun said he would accept any decision made by Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.

“My only goal is to help rebuild a democratic and prosperous Bangladesh in the post-fascist era under their leadership,” he said. “Until then, I will continue working to strengthen the BNP in Patuakhali-3.”

With his rising popularity, solid organisational roots, and unwavering party commitment, Hasan Mamun appears poised to become not only a strong contender in the next election but also a prominent face in the next generation of Bangladeshi political leadership.
