Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Wednesday expressed optimism that the Election Commission (EC) would soon receive an official letter from the interim government detailing the timeframe for the next general election, expected in early February 2026.
“The Chief Adviser has said he will send us a letter to hold the election ahead of Ramadan in early February. I hope we will receive it very soon,” the CEC told a press conference at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital.
On Tuesday, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, in a televised address marking July Uprising Day, announced that he would formally notify the EC to arrange the national polls before Ramadan in February 2026.
Nasir Uddin said the EC has been preparing well in advance despite various challenges. “There will be no lack of preparation. InshaAllah, we are taking all necessary measures to conduct a fair and credible election,” he said.
He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to transparency. “We want the election to be as clear as a mirror, so the people and the world can see our sincerity and efforts. We have nothing to hide.”
The CEC said the updated voter list will be finalised by 31 August, with further updates to include those eligible before the polls. He also expressed hope that all necessary procurement for the election will be completed by September.
