The total number of registered voters in Bangladesh has now reached 126,307,504, according to the Election Commission. Of them, 64,010,455 are men, 62,295,819 are women, and 1,230 are listed as third-gender voters.

The updated figures were announced on Sunday (31 August) at the Election Commission headquarters in Dhaka by Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, Akhtar Ahmed.

He explained that another round of voter enrolment will be completed by 31 October, allowing all citizens who turn 18 by that date to be included in the electoral roll ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.

Earlier, on 10 August, the Commission published a draft supplementary voter list that included the names of 4.45 million individuals who had previously been left out. Citizens were allowed to submit applications until 21 August for inclusion, removal of deceased or ineligible voters, changes in constituency, or corrections to errors. Local election officers and registration officials processed these applications by 24 August.

After completing the verification and correction process, the Election Commission officially published the final updated voter list on 31 August.

Officials further confirmed that citizens turning 18 by 31 October will also be added, ensuring their eligibility to participate in the 13th general election. Preparations are already underway, with the polls expected to be held in the first half of February, before the holy month of Ramadan. The Commission has already released a detailed roadmap for the election.

The updated roll, with more than 126 million eligible voters, is expected to play a key role in shaping the nation’s next parliamentary polls, one of the most significant democratic exercises in Bangladesh’s political calendar.
