Moheshkhali LNG Terminal Resumes Partial Operations

The LNG terminal operated by Excelerate Energy at Moheshkhali has resumed partial operations after remaining out of service for nearly two weeks due to a technical fault, easing pressure on the country's gas supply.

Petrobangla Member (Operation) Dr Rafiqul Islam said the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) resumed operations on Thursday, supplying around 115 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd).

He said gas supply from the terminal is expected to increase to between 750 mmcfd and 800 mmcfd by Thursday night as operations return to normal.

The gas shortage began on July 21 after LNG imports through the Excelerate Energy terminal were suspended because of a technical problem.

The disruption significantly reduced the country's LNG regasification capacity, as Bangladesh had been relying on only one operational FSRU while another terminal remained out of service.

Petrobangla officials said another LNG cargo has already arrived in Bangladeshi waters and is scheduled to begin unloading on Friday, which will further strengthen gas supply.
