Russia Reaffirms Commitment to Rooppur Nuclear Plant Completion

Russia has reaffirmed its strong commitment to the successful and timely completion of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP), with an emphasis on ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and adherence to international regulations.


This pledge was made during a meeting between Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander G. Khozin, and Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary, Md. Jashim Uddin, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, according to a statement released by the Ministry.

The Ambassador updated the Foreign Secretary on the recent visit of Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Russia's State Corporation for Nuclear Energy, ROSATOM, to Bangladesh, and provided insights into the ongoing progress of the RNPP project.

Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin highlighted Bangladesh’s strong commitment to the early and efficient completion of the RNPP, recognizing its significance for the country’s energy future. He also expressed appreciation for Russia's pivotal role in enhancing Bangladesh’s energy infrastructure.

The Foreign Secretary reiterated Bangladesh's desire to strengthen bilateral relations with Russia, particularly through expanded cooperation in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and technology.

Additionally, both officials discussed a range of regional and global issues of mutual interest, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration in international forums. They stressed the need for ongoing dialogue on pressing global challenges, underscoring the shared commitment to global peace and security.
