Bangladesh and Japan have signed an agreement to provide Japanese grant aid for a project aimed at improving air pollution monitoring in Dhaka and Chattogram. The grant, worth JPY 835 million (approximately USD 5 million), will fund the installation of advanced equipment to measure and analyze air pollutants, primarily from vehicle emissions, to enhance the country’s air pollution control efforts.

The signing ceremony, which took place on Monday, was attended by Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Ikuina Akiko, Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi, and Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary of the Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance.

“Under our ‘Strategic Partnership’, Japan remains committed to supporting Bangladesh’s development and prosperity, contributing to regional peace and stability,” said Vice-Minister Ikuina.

Md. Khayrul Hasan, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, also attended the ceremony. Following the exchange of notes, ICHIGUCHI Tomohide, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh, and Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky signed the official grant agreement.
