Dutch Ambassador for Youth, Education, and Work, Jurriaan Middelhoff, is currently on a visit to Bangladesh, with the aim of exploring opportunities to enhance youth employment and entrepreneurship in the country.

“I’m thrilled to be in Bangladesh during these critical times to discuss how the Netherlands can contribute to boosting youth employment and entrepreneurship,” said Middelhoff.

A key moment in his visit was his participation in the Social Business Youth Summit, where he met with Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. During a fireside chat, Middelhoff elaborated on the Netherlands’ “Youth at Heart” strategy, emphasizing the various initiatives designed to foster entrepreneurship and employment for young people in Bangladesh.

Middelhoff also engaged in discussions with Asif Mahmud, Adviser for Youth and Sports, about promoting more meaningful youth participation in decision-making processes and policies that directly affect their futures.

While visiting Dhaka University, the Dutch envoy took the opportunity to connect with students and explore the powerful street art on campus that serves as a poignant reminder of the student uprising in July.

Middelhoff further deepened his engagement with the youth by visiting Drik Gallery's exhibition, ‘A Journey Through July’, where he conversed with students about the role of media, journalism, and the aspirations they hold for Bangladesh’s future.

A key moment in his trip was attending a stakeholder dinner where discussions focused on the significant challenges young people face today. These included barriers to securing decent jobs, the gap between education and the labor market, the impact of climate change, and the urgent need for youth involvement in policymaking.

Recognizing young people as key drivers of future progress, the Dutch Embassy in Dhaka reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting youth development. "The Netherlands prioritizes youth empowerment, and this is why we have a dedicated Ambassador for Youth and a ‘Youth at Heart’ strategy embedded in our development policies," said the Embassy.
