Saudi Arabia has officially announced the date of Eid-ul-Azha after the crescent moon marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah for the year 1447 Hijri was sighted on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the Saudi moon-sighting committee, Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated across the kingdom on May 27, while the Day of Arafah will be observed on May 26.

The committee confirmed that the holy month of Dhul Hijjah will begin from Sunday evening following the sighting of the new moon in different parts of the country.

Saudi-based platform Inside the Haramain also confirmed the development through a post on social media platform X, stating that the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah had been successfully sighted in Saudi Arabia.

With the announcement, preparations for the annual Hajj pilgrimage and Eid-ul-Azha celebrations have formally begun in the kingdom.

Meanwhile, several countries in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei, have also announced the beginning of Dhul Hijjah and the dates for Eid-ul-Azha based on their respective moon-sighting observations.

As moon sightings vary from country to country, the dates of Eid-ul-Azha may differ depending on local religious authorities and astronomical observations.
