Spread tradition of Shakrain to new generation: DSCC Mayor

Jagannath University, Jan 14 - Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has expressed his determination to spread the tradition of Shakrain, the kite festival, organised at the end of Bengali month Poush, among the new generation.

Dhaka South City Corporation organized the traditional Shakrain/kite festival and cultural program at Dhupkhola field of Old Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.

Mayor Taposh said, "Kite festival or Shakrain festival is the oldest tradition of Dhaka. Today we have gathered at the traditional Dhupkhola field of Gandaria to celebrate this festival. You see, the sky of Dhaka including Gandaria is filled with kites today. We want our young people, our children to carry on the tradition."

Later, the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation flew a kite.

Awlad Hossain, a lawmaker from Dhaka-4 constituency, Moshiur Rahman Molla Sajal, Dhaka-5 MP, and Humayun Kabir, general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League, were also present at the event.

Dhaka South City Corporation has been organizing the Shakrain Festival since 2021 under the supervision of the Sports and Culture Affairs Committee of the Corporation.

The festival was organized simultaneously in all 75 wards of South City Corporation.

A total of 15,000 kites were distributed through the councillors. - UNB
