More than 10.7 million SIM holders left Dhaka during the nine-day Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, according to data from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, special assistant to the chief adviser overseeing the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, shared the information in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Citing BTRC figures, Tayyab wrote, “A total of 10.7 million mobile SIM users left Dhaka during the seven days of the Eid holidays, from March 28 to April 3.”
Meanwhile, around 4.4 million SIM holders re-entered the capital over the same period.
Breaking down the data, he noted that 7.7 million SIM holders left Dhaka between March 28 and March 31, the day of Eid. Another 2.9 million departed between April 1 and 3. March 30 saw the highest single-day outflow, with nearly 2.4 million SIM holders leaving the city.
During these seven days, a total of 4.44 million SIM holders returned to Dhaka, the data showed.
