Fire burns over 50 houses in Gazipur



Gazipur, May 24 - More than 50 residential houses were gutted in a massive fire in the workers' colony at Kaliakoir in Gazipur on Friday.

Fortunately, no one sustained injuries in the fire that erupted in Telirchala area of Mouchak in Kaliakoir upazila around 1:15pm.

Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service, said on information four firefighting units of Kaliakoir and Konabari Fire Service went to the spot and brought the blaze under control at around 2:15pm.

The amount of damage caused by the fire will be known after investigation, he added.

Residents of the colony said that Sarwar Hossain and Abu Sufian had rented land from the locals and built houses and rented them to people of various professions including garment workers.-UNB
