Two houses belonging to the late MP and Awami League leader Hasibur Rahman Swapon, from the Sirajganj-6 (Shahzadpur) constituency, were vandalized and set on fire in the Sayedabad area of Sirajganj, police reported.

The incident occurred on Thursday night when a group of angry protesters, participating in a procession, stormed the houses and set them ablaze. The attack was broadcast live on Facebook, with protesters chanting slogans like "Awami Leaguer astana Sayedabade hobena" ("No Awami League in Sayedabad"). Afterward, the group marched away from the scene.

A relative of the late MP, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that Swapan owned three houses on separate plots in the area. Two of them, a single-story and a double-story house, were targeted during the attack. These properties had been transferred to his daughters' names before Swapan's passing due to COVID-19 on September 21, 2021, and are currently rented out.

Humayon Kabir, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station, stated he was informed of the incident by locals but noted that no formal complaint had been filed yet.
