A new fire erupted in another part of the Sundarbans on Sunday, just hours after fire brigades successfully brought a blaze under control in a different section of the forest.

The Forest Department identified the new fire in the dense forest area of Shaplar Bil, near the 23 Sher Siler of Dhansagar Patrol Post in the Chandpai Range of the Sundarbans East Division, located in Bagerhat district. In response, the department began monitoring the situation with the help of drones.

Kazi Mohammad Nurul Karim, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Sundarbans East Division, stated that the department is actively gathering information about the fire. He mentioned that staff from the Forest Department and fire stations are en route to the site, and further details will be available once they arrive.

Aftab-e-Alam, the In-charge of the Sharankhola Fire Station in Bagerhat, confirmed that fire station personnel have been dispatched to assist in controlling the fire.

Earlier, on Saturday morning, the Forest Department had detected a fire in the Tapar Bil area, near the Kolmatji Camp of the Dhansagar Station in the Chandpai Range. Firefighters worked tirelessly through the night, finally bringing the blaze under control by Sunday morning, more than 24 hours after it first ignited.

The Forest Department continues to monitor both fires, with efforts underway to prevent further spread and assess the damage.
