At least 18 people were injured when a fire broke out on the ground floor of a five-storey building in the Bangshal area of Dhaka early Monday morning.

The blaze, which began around 4:10 AM, quickly spread through the building located on Nazimuddin Road, according to Khairul Islam Rony, a spokesperson for the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD).

Firefighting units from Siddique Bazar and Lalbagh stations were immediately dispatched to the scene. The fire was successfully contained at 5:12 AM after hours of intense firefighting efforts.

While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, authorities are working to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further damage. The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

In a separate incident, a fire at a flower shop in Shahbagh was also brought under control.
