8 shops gutted in fire at Kalapara on Friday.



Patuakhali: 8 business shops have been gutted in a fire in the tourist center of Kuakata. Three more shops were partially damaged in the fire. The fire broke out around 6:30 am on Friday in the area adjacent to the Sequin Hotel outside the embankment of the municipal city.

Sources said that 2 food hotels, 2 cloth shops, 1 grocery store, 1 oyster shop, 1 generator shop and 1 tea shop were burnt to ashes in the blazing flames. On receiving the information, a team of the fire service reached the spot and brought the fire under control after about an hour of effort. The traders said that the damage in the incident was about half a crore taka. However, no one could confirm how the fire started.

Kalapara Fire Service in-charge Abul Hossain said, after receiving the information around 8 am, they reached the spot and brought the fire under control after an hour of effort. The origin of the fire and the extent of the damage can be said subject to investigation. - Gofran Palash
