Patuakhali: In a separate operation at Kalapara in Patuakhali, the Coast Guard arrested 10 persons with 1.5 lakh bagda shrimp and 7 illegal behundi nets. Members of Nizampur Coast Guard Contingent arrested 2 drivers along with 1.5 lakh bagda shrimp worth Tk 30 lakh in 23 drums from the toll plaza of Sheikh Jamal bridge on Kalapara-Kuakata highway on Monday late night. Later in the night, the seized bagda shrimp was released in the Sonatala River in the presence of the Fisheries Officer.

Earlier, Coast Guard members arrested 8 fishermen with 7 illegal behundi nets from a trawler in Andharmanik River estuary around 10 pm.

Later, in coordination with the Fisheries Department, the arrested were released on bond, including burning the nets.

Kalapara Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Apu Saha said that the seized Bagda shrimp has been released into Sonatla River. And the seized illegal behundi nets were burnt. This campaign will continue to protect the fish resources of the country. - Gofran Biswas Palash
