Hilsa caught in the net of Surjya Majhi

Patuakhali: 130 maunds hilsa fish were caught in a fishing net in the Bay of Bengal near Kuakata. The fisherman named Surjya Majhi brought these fish to Alipur fish landing center for sale on Saturday morning.

Earlier, these fishes were caught in his net in the sea 60 km from Kuakata last Thursday night.

It is known that on Wednesday, Surjya Majhi sailed from Alipur to the Bay of Bengal with a trawler named Allah Daya-1 of Bashkhali along with 17 fishermen. After pulling the net, they caught a large amount of hilsa, they could not take the whole fish to the trawler and left half of the net in the sea. Fishermen said that the market value of these hilsa is about 40 lakhs.

Surjya Majhi said, after we went to the sea for the first time to catch, the nets filled with fish appeared. Never before have we caught so many fish in our nets. Later, because our trawler was loaded, we cut half the net with fish in the sea and left. We fishermen are very grateful. The fish are currently being harvested and sold by auction.

Kalapara Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Apu Saha said that hilsa has been caught in fishermen's nets for quite some time. We hope that when the rains start, the nets of the fishermen will be flooded with various species of fish including hilsa. - Gofran Biswas Palash
