Teesta Flows 13cm Above Danger Level In Nilphamari

The Teesta River has risen above the danger level again following continuous heavy rainfall and increased upstream inflows, triggering flooding in several low-lying areas of Nilphamari.

According to the Bangladesh Water Development Board, the river's water level at the Dalia point in Dimla upazila was recorded at 52.28 metres at 9:00am on Wednesday, 13 centimetres above the danger level. The same level was recorded at 6:00am, indicating sustained high water.

As the river continued to swell, floodwater entered low-lying areas in several unions of Dimla upazila, including Purba Chhatnai, Tepa Kharibari, Khaga Kharibari, Khalisa Chapani, Jhunagach Chapani and Goyabari.

Flooding was also reported in Golmunda, Dauabari and Shaulmari unions of neighbouring Jaldhaka upazila.

Tepa Kharibari Union Parishad Chairman Robiul Islam Shahin said floodwater had already started inundating low-lying areas as the Teesta continued to rise.

Dalia Water Development Board Executive Engineer Amitabh Chowdhury said the river had remained 13 centimetres above the danger level since 6:00am, and authorities were closely monitoring the situation.
