Low-lying areas of Nijhum Dwip under Noakhali’s Hatiya upazila have been submerged due to rising water from heavy tidal surge.



Low-lying areas of Nijhum Dwip under Noakhali’s Hatiya upazila have been submerged due to rising water from heavy tidal surge.

Roads and markets of nine wards of the union were flooded due to heavy tidal surge on Thursday afternoon. As a result, water has entered houses, and road communications of the union has been disturbed, putting the people under sufferings.

Md Zahidur Rahman, the headmaster of a primary school, said Bandarkilla, Namarbazar, Islampur and Molla villages have been submerged, and many people are not able to come out from their homes.

Hatiya’s UNO Salim Hossain said low-lying areas of Nijhum Dwip have been submerged and we are taking a preparation to resolve their problems.

According to Bangladesh Water Development Board, low-lying areas of coastal districts and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by tidal surges due to a low pressure at Bay.
