
60,000 people are marooned in Kurigram .
The water of Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers is flowing above the danger level in Kurigram.
Although, the water levels of Brahmaputra and Teesta have decreased but are still flowing below the danger level. But, the low-lying areas of the district went under water. As a result, the flood in Kurigram has marooned 60,000 people.
Kurigram water development board office on Saturday (July 15) said the water levels in Nunkhawa, Chilmari and Kaunia points of the Brahmaputra River are flowing by 25cm, 24cm, and 15cm below of the danger level respectively in last 24 hours. However, the water level of Dharala River is flowing 19cm above the danger level in Sadar Point while the Dudhkumar River is flowing 36cm above the danger mark in Pateshwar point.
Abdul Majid, a dweller of Baladoba Char in Bagumganj union of Ulipur upazila said, “I kept my family members in a high land due to flood. I received 10 kilograms of rice yesterday. But, it's tough to cook that food in this situation. We are suffering a lot.”
Abdullah Al Mamun, executive engineer of Kurigram Water Development Board said the water level in the rivers is now little-bit stable. the Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers are flowing above their danger level.
Mohammad Saidul Arif, deputy commissioner of Kurigram district said food assistance has already been provided to 600 families in the area.
