Russia expresses keen interest to export wheat in Bangladesh

Russian Federation has expressed its keen interest to export wheat in Bangladesh and primarily 3 lakh tonnes of wheat to be imported from Russia as per agreement between the two countries.

The assurance came when Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh Alexander Vikentyevich Mantytskiy paid a courtesy call on Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder at his secretariat office here today. 

“Russia is agreed to export necessary wheat in Bangladesh,” said the Russian envoy. 

There are enormous possibilities of trade and investment between Bangladesh and Russia, said Alexander Vikentyevich, adding that “and that’s why Russia is agreed to play role in achieving food security of Bangladesh.”

During the meeting, they discussed different issues including economic progress of Bangladesh, dissemination of bilateral trade and commerce and wheat export.

Congratulating to Russia for expressing its interest to export wheat to Bangladesh, Food Minister said “this [Russian interest] will play an important role in developing bilateral relations.”

“Bangladesh has very much excellent relation with Russia…and this relation is gradually expanding to various spheres including trade and investment,” the Food Minister said. 

The minister also recalled Russian support which had been provided for recovering economy and infrastructures of the war ravaged Bangladesh during and after the Liberation War.

Food Secretary M Ismail Hossain and other high officials of the ministry including Director General of the Department of Food M Shakawat Hossain, were present during the meeting, reports BSS.
