Independence Cup football begins tomorrow

DHAKA - Riviera 11th Independence Cup Football will
begin from tomorrow (Saturday) at Birshreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa
Kamal Stadium with two matches billed for the opening day.

   Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, MP, is expected to inaugurate the
tournament as the chief guest.

   On the first day of the tournament, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra will take
on Uttar Baridhara Club in one of the group B opening matches at 3.30 pm
while Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club meet Air Force Football team in
the second match of opening day's fixture at 6 pm.

   On the following day (Sunday), Mohammedan Sporting Club will play against
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra at 4 pm while Saif Sporting Club
face Bangladesh Army Football team at 6 pm.

   Fifteen teams, twelve teams from premier league and three services teams,
split into four groups, will take part in the prestigious Independence Cup.

   The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals which
will be followed by the semifinals and the final. The final of the tournament is slated on December 18.BSS
