Dhaka, 4 Nov  - Abahani Limited Dhaka emerged as group B champions in the Independence Cup football beating eliminating Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra by 2-0 goals held at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mqani Stadium in Gopalganj.

In the day's match, Brazilian midfielder Janathan Fernandes and his compatriot forward Washington Brandao scored one goal each for Abahani Limited who earlier confirmed their spot of quarterfinal.

The match was locked goalless at the breather.

After the barren first half, Janathan finally broke te deadlock scoring the first goal for Abahani Limited in the 65th minute while Washington doubled the lead scoring the second goal for Abahani in the 75th minute of the match.

Sheikh Russel howeve tried their best to stage a fight back in the match but they could not score any in the remaining proceeding.

In the day's second match, Mohammedan Sporting Club emerged as group C champions to reach quarterfinal after playing out to a 1-1 goal draw with new comer Fortis Football Club held at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiuar Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

In the proceeding, foreign recruit Valeri Hryshy opened an account scoring the first goal for Fortis FC in the 30th minute while Abedin Rakib restored the parity for Mohammedan in the 74th minute of the match.
