Speakers at a seminar in Dhaka on Monday expressed support to the people of Palestine in their struggle to establish their status as an independent and sovereign state on their own land.

The seminar organized by the ‘Palestine Salidatrity Council’and attended by people from a wide spectrum of the society expressed their anger at the killing of innocent women and children in Israeli air strike on Gaza apart from blockading both the strip and the West Bank disregarding all accords for a two state solution for lasting peace.

Justice Abdul Matin, retired judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court was the chief guest at the seminar presided over by Moulana Kazi Abu Horaira, president, Jatiya Imam Samity. A paper was presented by Md Rashedul Islam, teacher, department of international relations, Jahangirnagar University.

Prof. Abdul Latif Masum, convener of the Palestine Solidarity Council, Kazi Abul Khair, secretary general, Bangladesh Muslim League, Moulana Abdul Latif Yousufi of Khelafat Majlis, former IG of Police Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, former secretary to the government Motahar Hossain, Poet and senior journalist Abdul Hye Sikdar, Prof. Hasanzzaman Chowdhury, and Pron Ali Ashraf of Bangladesh Islami Andolan spoke at the programme among others.

They strongly criticized Israel for building new settlements on Palestinian territories, keeping the population under seize and denying them basic rights including the rights to freedom of expression, freedom of association and freedom of movement. The present leadership of Israel have set an aim to establish greater Israel encompassing the whole of Palestine.

The speakers demanded boycott of Israeli products and stoppage of trade and commerce with the country to register protest against its policy of apartheid towards the people of Palestine. – News Desk
