Jeddah, 25 June 2024 - The OIC Observatory Warns Gaza is Entering Its Most Critical Humanitarian Phase Since October 7Israel Seeks to Make the Killings Part of a Harsher Collective Punishment of Gazans.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) media observatory on Israel’s crimes against the Palestinians warned that the Gaza Strip has entered a critical stage since mid-June 2024. This period is considered the worst compared to previous months. The OIC Observatory identified three main elements worsening the crisis.
The first of which is the continued aggression of the Israeli forces against the Gaza Strip through complete control over it, targeting all its areas, and refusing to cease military operations.
The second element represents the destruction of approximately 70% of Gaza’s urban infrastructure, especially water networks, sanitation, and roads, as well as the destruction of most of the health sector, making most areas of Gaza uninhabitable.
The entry of limited quantities of humanitarian aid, fuel, and water is the third element that prevents any significant recovery, exacerbates the humanitarian crises, and increases its devastating effects more than ever before.
Daily statistics of casualties and targeted areas indicate that Israel aims to normalize this dire situation in Gaza. The ongoing direct killings appear to be part of a harsher collective punishment strategy.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that 67% of water and sanitation facilities in Gaza have been destroyed after about nine months of continuous war. This destruction has led to the spread of infectious diseases, particularly with high summer temperatures and polluted drinking water. The Khan Yunis municipality confirmed that 170-200 kilometers of water networks have been destroyed.
The drinking water crisis in Gaza coincides with the starvation of its population due to Israel’s blocking of the entry of goods and humanitarian aid, while Palestinians warned that 3,500 children were at risk of starvation, in light of the lack of regular vaccinations and medicines. Save the Children confirmed that 21,000 children have died due to Israeli military operations.
Between June 18 and 24, 2024, the OIC Media Observatory recorded the killing of 265 Palestinians and the injury of 680 others. From October 7, 2023, to June 23, 2024, 38,151 Palestinians were killed and 91,232 were injured.
In the West Bank, five Palestinians were murdered by Israeli forces
and 212 were arrested. There were 33 attacks by Israeli settlers on cities, towns, and villages, including raids on two mosques in Jericho and Hebron, and on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Al-Quds.
Settlers carried out settlement activities in repeated attempts to establish settlement outposts in Hebron and Nablus, in addition to grazing their sheep on Palestinian agricultural lands, burning other lands, and attacking agricultural greenhouses in Nablus, Salfit, Tulkarm, and Hebron, and stealing sheep from Palestinian barns, in addition to trying to obstruct aid convoys coming from Jordan to Gaza Strip.
The total number of Israeli crimes against Palestinians during this period reached 1,576. – OIC News
