Maulana Bhashani's death anniversary observed in Tangail

Marking the 48th death anniversary of Moulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani on Sunday a mourning procession was brought out by the Moulana Bhasani Foundation at Santosh, the seat of the late leader.

Tangail, Nov 18 - The 48th death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani was observed with due solemnity in the town amid spontaneous participation of people of all walks of life on Sunday.

Azim Akhand, BNP secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Bhasani Anusari Parishad and Gano Adhikar Parishad placed floral wreaths at the mazar Moulana Bhashani at Santosh in the morning.

A mourning rally, discussion and a Doa Mahfil were also organized on the occasion in Tangail. 

A seven-day long Bhasani Fair was held from Nov 11 to 17 at the shrine of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani. A large number of Bhashani followers from across Bangladesh visited his shrine.

Founder president of Muslim Awami Muslim League Maulana Bhashani who was popularly known as Mozlum Jananeta  died on November 17 in 1976 at the then PG Hospital in capital Dhaka and was buried in Santosh, Tangail.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) organised a rally at the open stage near the shrine. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was the chief guest at the rally which was presided over by Khandakar Nazimuddin, chairman, Moulana Bhasani Foundation, Tangail.

In the evening a discussion meeeting on the life and works of Moulana Bhasani was organised by the Moulana Bhasani foundation at the same venue. Prof. Jasim Uddin Ahmad, former Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University was the Chief Guest and eminent journalist Mostafa Kamal Majumder the special gueat at the meeting held with Moulana Bhasani Foundation chairman Khandakar Nazimuddin in the chair.

Dr. Nazma Ahmed Shikha, Prof. Azad KHan and Life-long Bhasani volunteer limuddin Talikdar also spoke at the function conducted by Bhasani Foundation secretary general Mahmudul Huq Sanu. - GW Dhaka News Desk
