Five out of six babies born together at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) have died while receiving treatment, hospital sources said.

The babies were born on Sunday morning to 23-year-old Mokshada Akter Priya from Senbagh, Noakhali, in the hospital’s gynecology labor ward.

Three boys were admitted to DMCH’s NICU and three girls were sent to a private hospital for intensive care.

Tragically, three boys at DMCH and two girls at the private hospital died between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

Only one baby girl remains under treatment at the private hospital.

Farzana Akter, Priya’s maternal aunt, confirmed the deaths.

Inspector Md. Faruk of DMCH police camp confirmed that all incidents occurred while the babies were under intensive care.

The hospital is continuing treatment for the surviving baby girl, while authorities and the family are grieving the loss of the other five newborns. - UNB
