Bangladesh Tops Global List in Green Garment Factories

Bangladesh has emerged as a global leader in sustainable apparel manufacturing, hosting 68 of the world’s top 100 eco-friendly ready-made garment (RMG) factories.

Notably, nine out of the top 10 highest-rated LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified garment factories worldwide are located in Bangladesh. This milestone follows the recent certification of four more factories with internationally recognized environmental awards.

The total number of LEED-certified garment factories in Bangladesh now stands at 248, including 105 with Platinum certification and 129 with Gold.

The newly certified factories include Advance Attire Limited in Manikganj, Amanat Shah Fabrics Limited in Narsingdi, Cotton Field BD Limited in Gazipur—each earning Platinum certification—and KM Apparel Knit Private Limited in Dhaka, awarded Gold certification.

BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu called this achievement a source of great pride, saying Bangladesh has become a global role model in green industrialization. He added that LEED certification enhances trust with international buyers and boosts the garment sector’s competitiveness.

Experts say this accomplishment elevates Bangladesh’s RMG industry to a leading position in global sustainability and green manufacturing standards.
