Govt Closely Tracking Flotilla Participants’ Safety: CA

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday reaffirmed that the government is keeping a close watch on the status and safety of participants in the 'Global Sumud Flotilla' bound for Gaza.

“We are closely monitoring the wellbeing of those taking part in the historic flotilla, particularly world-renowned photographer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam,” the Chief Adviser said in a statement.

He lauded Shahidul’s courage, recalling his determination and resilience during 107 days of imprisonment in 2018 for raising his voice against injustice under the Hasina government.

“He stands today as a shining symbol of Bangladesh’s unyielding spirit,” Yunus remarked.

Referring to his address at the United Nations General Assembly last month, the Chief Adviser warned that indifference to human suffering is eroding humanity’s hard-won progress.

“Nowhere is this tragedy more visible than in Gaza, where children are dying of hunger, civilians are being killed indiscriminately, and entire neighbourhoods — including hospitals and schools — are being erased from the map,” he said.

Reiterating Bangladesh’s moral stance, the Chief Adviser concluded, “We stand with Shahidul Alam and with Gaza — now and forever.”
