Commerce, Industries and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir today emphasized the need for greater US investment and technology cooperation to accelerate the development of the Sylhet region.

"The United States' technological expertise could play a significant role in supporting Sylhet's sustainable development while preserving its rich cultural heritage and strengthening its tourism sector," he said.

The minister made the remarks while talking to reporters after a courtesy meeting with US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen at a hotel in Sylhet.

Muktadir said the discussions focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in investment, trade, tourism and digital technology.

The meeting also highlighted the contribution of Bangladeshi expatriates, particularly those from Sylhet living in the United States, and explored ways to deepen economic and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The minister expressed optimism that increased American investment in Sylhet and continued high-level engagement would boost economic cooperation and help achieve mutual development goals.

The meeting was attended by Members of Parliament Mohammad Abdul Malek (also known as MA Malek), Tahsina Rushdir Luna, Emran Ahmed Chowdhury and Mufti Abul Hasan, Chairman of the Sylhet Development Authority (SDA) Rezwan Hasan Koyes Lodi and Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Administrator Abul Kaiyum Chowdhury, reports BSS.
