Abdul Samad Dawood, CEO of Pakistan’s Engro Holdings, has expressed keen interest in expanding operations in Bangladesh, citing strong potential in the telecommunications and energy sectors.
Dawood shared his views during a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna on Thursday, where they discussed potential avenues for collaboration and investment.
“We see exciting opportunities in Bangladesh’s telecommunications sector, and we’re particularly interested in helping distribute gas from Bhola to power the country’s growing industrial base,” Dawood said, according to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s press wing.
Professor Yunus welcomed Engro’s interest and highlighted the importance of sustainable and forward-thinking partnerships. “We should focus on long-term projects that improve lives and foster inclusive growth,” he said.
Dawood, who is in Dhaka to attend the Bangladesh Investment Summit, praised the four-day event organized by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), describing it as “sincere, welcoming, and purposeful.”
“The Summit had a human touch. It was remarkable to see so many top global and regional companies represented under one roof,” he added.
Encouraging future engagement, Dr. Yunus invited Engro’s leadership to return and explore Bangladesh further. “This country has much to offer—not just to investors, but to the world,” he said.
Also present at the meeting were Lutfey Siddiqi, Chief Adviser’s Special Envoy for International Affairs; Lamiya Morshed, Principal Coordinator for SDG Affairs; and Siraz Uddin Miah, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
