Patuakhali: A human chain was staged at Kalapara of Patuakhali demanding an end to harassment by the land acquisition wing and brokers, along with compensation for the acquired land and infrastructure of Payra Sea Port. College lecturer Fakar Uddin, Kawsar Ahmed and Salauddin Salu etc. spoke on behalf of the victims.

The beneficiaries said that the land was acquired by District Land Acquisition Branch LA Case No. 16/2017-18 from Char Baliatli Mauza of Balliatali Union of Kalapara for the development project of Payra Port. A letter was issued to the victims mentioning the payment of compensation through the latest land survey BS Khatian. But when contacted the Land Acquisition Branch with the necessary documents, the surveyors including the Kanungo of the Land Acquisition Branch are demanding commission by highlighting the demand for CS survey documents. The victims complained of harassment of the victims by creating various complications including lawsuits through the identified brokers of the Land Acquisition Branch.

Balitali UP member Marjina Begum said many families are losing their ancestral homes, houses and tombs due to land acquisition. However, they are willing to give land for the development of the country.

However, they will not give the land without compensation for the damage to the land and infrastructure.
