Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that a bounty will soon be offered for information leading to the recovery of firearms looted after 5 August last year.

Speaking to reporters after a core committee meeting on law and order at the Home Ministry, he said around 700 firearms remain missing. An internal committee will determine the bounty amount, and a circular is expected within two to four days.

The move aims to recover the missing weapons ahead of the national election scheduled for February. The Home Adviser reiterated that the ministry is committed to ensuring a secure and credible election despite speculation about possible unrest.

He said Bangladesh Ansar and VDP members will play a key role in maintaining security, with each presiding officer assigned an armed Ansar member for protection. Additionally, body-worn cameras will be deployed to provide real-time updates from polling stations.

“No anarchy will take place during the election. We will be able to hold it in a fair and peaceful manner,” Jahangir assured.
