Indian Woman Sets World Record With 8-Foot-10 Hair

An Indian woman has set a new world record for the longest hair on a living person, with her locks measuring more than 8 feet.

Renu Dhariyal, a content creator and YouTuber from India, secured the record after Guinness World Records verified her achievement in Haldwani, Uttarakhand.

Her hair measures 271.50cm (8 feet 10 inches), just slightly shorter than Robert Wadlow, the tallest person ever recorded, who stood 272cm (8 feet 11.1 inches).

Guinness World Records verified Dhariyal's achievement in Haldwani in April. She took the record from Ukraine's Aliia Nasyrova, whose hair measured 257.33cm (8 feet 5.3 inches).

Dhariyal, who shares beauty tips with women through her social media platforms, said she had been growing her hair continuously since 2015 without cutting it.

She said the cultural significance of long hair in India, where it is often regarded as a symbol of beauty and tradition, inspired her to grow it to such an extraordinary length.

To keep her thick hair off the ground, she wears it in an elaborate plait.

Maintaining hair of such length requires considerable time and patience. Dhariyal said she spends hours washing and detangling it.
