Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Thursday spoke by phone with the editors of two leading national dailies following vandalism and arson attacks on their offices.

During the calls, he expressed deep anguish over what he described as an unwarranted and deplorable assault on media institutions and journalists, assuring them that the government stands firmly by independent journalism during this difficult time.

He said the attacks were not merely incidents of violence but a direct assault on press freedom, warning that such acts pose a serious obstacle to the country’s democratic progress and the path toward a free and independent media.

The chief adviser also assured the editors that their personal safety and the security of their organisations would be fully ensured. He pledged all necessary support from the authorities and said he would meet them in person soon to discuss the matter further.
