SAAB elects new executive committee at Russian House in Dhaka

The Soviet and Russian Alumni Association of Bangladesh (SAAB) has elected a new 22-member executive committee at its 14th executive committee election held at the Russian House in Dhaka.

Nearly 400 voting members from across the country took part in the election, reflecting strong participation from the association's alumni network.

Established on August 7, 1982, SAAB represents more than 6,000 graduates of Soviet and Russian higher educational institutions. Over the past four decades, its members have contributed to Bangladesh in sectors including education, science, engineering, medicine, public administration, research, business and culture.

The newly elected committee will lead the association for the next term and is expected to continue its efforts to strengthen educational, cultural, scientific and humanitarian cooperation between Bangladesh and the Russian Federation.

Addressing the event, Alexandra Khlevnoy, director of the Russian House in Dhaka, congratulated the newly elected committee and wished its members success in their tenure. She said SAAB has been playing an important role in fostering academic collaboration, cultural exchange and people-to-people relations between Bangladesh and Russia.

The Russian House also reaffirmed its support for SAAB and its alumni network, expressing its commitment to expanding higher education opportunities for Bangladeshi students through Russian universities and government scholarship programmes. It said the initiative aims to encourage future graduates to contribute to Bangladesh's sustainable development and economic progress.
