The Dhaka city dwellers suffered immensely due to incessant rainfall for hours on Thursday night as it triggered water stagnation and traffic congestion in many areas of the city.
Many city areas in the capital, including Mirpur 10, Mirpur 11, Shyamoli, Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Purana Paltan, Gulistan, Old Dhaka, Bangshal Road, Bijoy Sarani, Eskaton, Farmgate and Tejgaon, go under water.
The rainfall triggered acute traffic congestion in many parts of the city and many vehicles, including cars and CNGs were stopped.
Residents had to suffer a lot and could not come out of home as knee-height water became stagnant in and around places of Dhanmondi.
The persistent rainfall with thunderstorm in Dhaka city was triggered due to the low pressure area over the Northwest Bay and the adjoining areas now lying over Jharkhand, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological department officials.
Many people, who rushed outside at the beginning of the weekend to go to their hometown and villages, they also suffered due to the continuous rainfall.
The monsoon is active over Northern part and fairly active elsewhere over Bangladesh and moderate over the North Bay, the BMD reports.
