Mixed reaction on budget from ruling alliance

Dhaka, June 14 – The leaders of Awami League-led 14-party alliance have given mixed reaction over the proposed budget for 2019-20 fiscal year. Some alliance leaders said the proposed budget will not fulfill the expectation of the mass people of the country while some leaders have dubbed the budget as pro-people and implementable.
Earlier on Thursday, the Finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed in parliament Tk 5,23,190 crore national budget for the 2019-20 financial year.
Talking to this correspondent AL’s alliance partner–Workers Party of Bangladesh President Rashed Khan Menon said there is no specific directive in the proposed budget to address the existing anarchy in the financial sector of the country.
“So, I think this budget will not be able to fulfill people’s expectation. Besides, there was no answer in the budget speech of the finance minister to curb corruption,” he said.
Another key ally of the ruling AL, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president Hasanul Haque Inu told The Independent that the proposed budget for 2019-20 fiscal year is pro-people and implementable.
He also said the proposed national budget is the AL-led government’s development budget. It’s a budget for keeping stability in the country’s financial sector.
Replying to a question, Inu said “if the government can keep GDP growth rate over 8 percent taking loans from banks, then where is the problem?. So I think the proposed budget is very much implementable and it will help the government to materialize its plan to take the country forward.”
Inu, also the former information minister also said there are no proper guidelines in the budget proposal for developing the country’s rural economy.
Another alliance partner Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal’s factional chief Sharif Nurul Ambia in his reaction said the present government’s annual budget is fine but the government will have to take proper measures to implement the budget.
“Implementation of the budget is the major challenge for the AL-led government as its past experience of budget execution was not good,” he said.
Meanwhile, the ruling Awami League leaders have dubbed the proposed budget for 2019-20 fiscal year as pro-people, pro-poor and realistic one. – Staff Reporter
