Pori Moni’s attempt to rape-murder case: Charges framed

A Dhaka court today framed charges against three people, incuding Uttara Club Limited former President Nasir U Mahmud, in an attempt to rape and murder case filed by film actress Pori Moni.

Two other accused are Nasir's associates Tuhin Siddiqui Omi and Shah Shahidul Alam.

The trio, now on bail, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Judge Md Hemayet Uddin of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 of Dhaka read out the charges to them.

Earlier in the day, the court rejected three separate petitions submitted earlier for discharging them from the charges of the case. The judge also fixed August 1to start trial of the case.

On September 6 last year, Mohammad Kamal Hossain, Inspector (Investigation) of Savar Model Police Station and also the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka.

Pori Moni filed the attempt to rape and murder case against Nasir, also a real estate businessman and a presidium member of the Jatiya Party, Omi and four unidentified people on June 14 last year.

A team of detectives carried out raid at a house in Uttara Sector-1 of the capital and arrested Nasir and Omi. They were also shown arrested in another case filed with the Airport Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.

They were earlier charged with the narcotics case after Detective Brach of police found their involvement with possessing 1,000 pieces of Yaba pills. – Special Correspondent
