PM Tarique Makes Surprise Visit to SPARRSO

DHAKA, June 28: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday paid a surprise visit to the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO), directing officials to transform the agency into a modern, self-reliant institution capable of making meaningful contributions to national security and development.

The Prime Minister arrived at SPARRSO headquarters in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Agargaon, at around 9:15 am. The visit, which was not part of his pre-announced schedule, included an inspection of the organisation's facilities under the Ministry of Defence.

During the visit, Tarique toured all divisions of SPARRSO and held impromptu interactions with its officers and staff to learn about their work and ongoing activities.

SPARRSO Chairman Md Rashidul Islam briefed the Prime Minister on the organisation's overall operations, while officials from different departments presented their research, innovations and ongoing projects related to space science, satellite technology and remote sensing.

The Prime Minister instructed the authorities concerned to develop SPARRSO into a modern, time-responsive and self-sufficient space research institution capable of supporting the country's development priorities and strengthening national security through advanced scientific research and technological innovation.

He also emphasised the importance of enhancing the organisation's research capacity and ensuring that its technological capabilities effectively serve national interests.

Among those present during the visit were the Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brig Gen (Retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam, Defence Secretary Md Ashraf Uddin, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, Private Secretary-2 Md Mehedul Islam, Deputy Press Secretary-1 Zahidul Islam Rony, and senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and SPARRSO.

SPARRSO is Bangladesh's national agency responsible for research, development and application of space science, satellite technology and remote sensing to support national planning, disaster management, agriculture, environmental monitoring and other strategic sectors.
