PM Urges All to Build Bangladesh Envisioned by July Martyrs

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday urged people across the country to work from their respective positions to realise the vision of a Bangladesh where basic needs and rights are ensured, as envisioned by those killed during the July mass uprising.

“Those who were martyred during the July mass uprising wanted to bring a change to the country—a change through which people’s basic needs and rights would be ensured and they could at least live in peace,” he said.

The prime minister was speaking at a ceremony in the Cabinet meeting room at the Secretariat, where families of Bangladesh Scouts members killed during the July mass uprising were honoured and provided financial assistance.

He said the sacrifices of the martyrs could never be repaid.

“Those who were martyred gave their lives for a noble cause. To ensure due respect for their sacrifice, it is not enough merely to remember them. Each of us who are still alive must work for the country from our respective positions,” Tarique said, according to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.

Addressing Bangladesh Scouts members, he urged them to serve the country and its people while developing a spirit of helping others and protecting nature.

The prime minister also called on them to inspire others to work for the welfare of the people.

At the programme, 10 families of Bangladesh Scouts members killed during the July mass uprising were honoured. Tarique Rahman handed over financial assistance cheques and medals of honour to the families.

Bangladesh Scouts President and Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani called for incorporating the contributions and sacrifices of those killed during the July mass uprising into the national curriculum so their role could be passed on to future generations.

Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, Prime Minister’s Adviser Dr Mahdi Amin and family members of the July uprising martyrs were present at the event.
