Police have recovered a 70-kg brass bell, which was stolen from Saint Paul School and Church in the capital’s Mohammadpur area.

The bell was recovered from beside a dustbin on Zakir Hossain Road of the area around 2:50am on Friday, said Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Halim.

The bell was found abandoned and wrapped in a white polythene bag, he said, adding that no one has yet been detained in connection with the incident.

The bell was stolen from an open space on the first floor of Saint Paul School and Church at 92 Asad Avenue, in front of the WASA building in Mohammadpur in the early hours of Thursday.

A case was later filed with Mohammadpur Police Station in connection with the theft.

Police are investigating why the CCTV recording of the church stopped before the theft, Abdul Halim said.

He said police were also analysing footage from other CCTV cameras in the area and conducting operations to identify and arrest those involved in the theft, reports UNB.
