In a first, 15 females join FSCD as firefighters

Dhaka, Nov 19 - For the first time in the history of the Fire Service, 15 females have been recruited in the post of 'Firefighter'.

According to the terms of the appointment letter, the newly recruited fire fighters officially joined the Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) Multipurpose Training Complex located in Purbachal of Narayanganj on Saturday. After joining they were transferred to Mirpur Training Complex, says media cell of the FSCD on Sunday afternoon.

Newly recruited female firefighters are-- Majeda Khatun, Papiya Khatun, Pinki Roy,  Maimuna Akhter, Rima Khatun, Meherunnesa Mim, Arjuman Akhter Rita, Mishu Akhtar, Jharna Rani Pal, Kakuli Khatun, Israt Jahan Iti, Nazmun Nahar, Yasmin Khatun, Ruzina Akhtar and Priyanka Halder.

Previously, women officers used to join the FSCD directorate as officers, but no woman was given appointment to the firefighter post and there was no opportunity to be appointed.

It may be mentioned that the post of 'Fireman' was recently changed to 'Firefighter' in order to eliminate gender discrimination. The change reflected the opportunity for both men and women to be candidates for this post.

Meanwhile, Director General of the Directorate of the FSCD Brigadier General Md Main Uddin welcomed the newly recruited female firefighters at the Mirpur Training Complex on Sunday.

Later the junior firefighters participated in a photo session with the Director General. At that time, two directors of the directorate along with the principal and vice-principal of the training complex were present.

On June 20 this year, the recruitment circular for the recruitment of fire fighters was published.

According to the recruitment notification, these 15 female candidates, out of 2,707 applicants, were finally selected for the post of firefighter (female) through preliminary screening, physical fitness and medical test, written test and oral examination. Later, the appointment letters were issued for them. -UNB
