The Anti-Discrimination Students Movement has issued a bold call for the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her cabinet, marking their single-point demand.
Nahid Islam, a key coordinator of the movement, declared this demand at a rally held at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital on Saturday. "Our sole demand now is the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her cabinet," Islam stated emphatically.
To press this demand, the movement has planned an 'all-out non-cooperation' program against the government starting Sunday.
Despite heavy rain, thousands of people from various parts of the capital gathered at Shaheed Minar to join the rally. They were protesting the recent killings during the quota reform protests and demanding the release of all arrested and detained students and individuals. The Shaheed Minar was filled to capacity, with every corner occupied by determined protesters.
The crowd, undeterred by the adverse weather conditions, continued to grow as more people arrived to show their solidarity and demand justice. The rally followed an online message from Asif Mahmud, another coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement, who had called on students to gather at Shaheed Minar at 3 PM on Saturday. By 2:30 PM, groups of protesters from Dhanmondi, Rabindra Sarobar, Press Club, Paltan, and Badda areas had already begun their march towards Shaheed Minar.
