Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to the interim government, visited Rangpur’s Pirganj upazila today to pay his respects at the grave of Abu Sayed. Arriving by helicopter at Bangladesh Marine Academy around 10:50 am, Yunus proceeded to the home of Abu Sayed to console his family.
Accompanied by Nahid Islam, Adviser for Telecommunication and Information Technology, Yunus offered his condolences and expressed solidarity with the grieving family. The visit was a gesture of support following the tragic death of Abu Sayed during recent anti-quota protests.
Abu Sayed, a 12th batch student from Begum Rokeya University (BRU) and a key figure in the anti-quota movement, was killed by police fire on July 16 while participating in a protest march from Lalbagh to the university campus.
Local residents, including Abu Sayed’s family, had been anticipating Yunus's visit. Abdul Karim, a local, described Sayed as "the pride of our village" and expressed admiration for his bravery. Ismat Ara, a college student, emphasized the need for the state to honor Sayed’s memory for future generations.
Dr. Yunus is also scheduled to visit Rangpur Medical College Hospital to meet with those injured in the recent unrest related to the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement.
