National Citizens' Committee Established for State Restructuring

The ‘National Citizens' Committee’ was inaugurated this afternoon at a rally held at the Central Shaheed Minar. Nasir Uddin Patwari has been appointed as the Convener, with Akhtar Hossain serving as the Member Secretary.

Formed with the objective of state reform and restructuring, the committee emerged from the student-public uprisings. At 5:30 p.m., Nasir announced the formation of the 55-member committee. Samanta Sharmin has been appointed as the spokesperson, with the remaining 52 members announced.

Key tasks of the committee include:

  • Upholding the democratic aspirations of the student-public uprising.
  • Ensuring justice for those involved in the brutal killings of students and the public.
  • Collaborating with and holding the interim government accountable for state reforms.
  • Promoting unity through discussions and programs across social, cultural, and political spheres.
  • Continuing resistance against fascist elements and consolidating leadership across various sectors.
  • Organizing dialogues with diverse groups, including expatriate Bangladeshis, to shape public policy.
  • Developing and implementing policies for state institution restructuring.
  • Facilitating public discussions to establish a Constituent Assembly and draft a new democratic constitution.

In a press release, the committee highlighted its commitment to supporting the government formed on August 8 while ensuring accountability. The committee aims to rebuild Bangladesh by stabilizing the new political community through peaceful means, securing justice, and reforming state institutions.

The committee also plans to engage with leaders and professionals who participated in the uprisings across metropolitan, district, and sub-district levels.
