Bangladesh is set to join 11 other countries at the fifth Goa Maritime Symposium, hosted by the Indian Navy at the Naval War College in Goa starting Monday, according to a statement from the Indian defense ministry.

The two-day event will feature naval representatives from Indian Ocean littoral nations, including Comoros, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Observers from Kenya and Tanzania will also be present.

Established by the Indian Navy in 2016, the symposium serves as a platform for fostering collaboration and mutual understanding among key maritime nations in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

This year’s theme is "Common Maritime Security Challenges in the Indian Ocean Region - Progressing Lines of Efforts to Mitigate Dynamic Threats such as Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing and Other Illegal Maritime Activities." The discussions will focus on enhancing regional maritime security through collaborative initiatives.
