A violent altercation broke out at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on the evening of January 8, leaving both a passenger and a security personnel injured. The conflict, which was reportedly triggered by a dispute over a blocked walkway caused by a trolley, took place at the airport's international arrival area (Canopy-2) around 9:15 p.m.

According to airport authorities and CCTV footage, a group of five passengers was exiting the area after completing their formalities. One passenger, identified later as Mohammed Sayed Uddin, obstructed the walkway with a trolley, causing significant inconvenience to others. Despite repeated requests from a security officer to move the trolley, the passenger became agitated and refused, leading to a physical altercation.

The situation escalated when Uddin’s son allegedly attacked the security officer in an attempt to intervene, intensifying the confrontation. Group Captain Kamrul Islam, the airport's executive director, confirmed that other security personnel, including members of Ansar and Aviation Security, rushed to the scene to break up the fight.

A video of the incident, which has since circulated online, shows a distressed woman screaming for help while her son, Uddin, is surrounded by a group of roughly 10 security personnel. Some of the officers appear to strike Uddin, who is seen with a swollen face and a bruised left eye.

The incident has drawn public attention, with the woman in the video accusing the security personnel of assaulting her son. Following the altercation, the passenger was brought before the airport magistrate’s court and fined Tk 5,000.

Airport sources revealed that the passengers involved had arrived in Dhaka from Norway via Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR-638. They are reportedly from Sonagazi in Feni.

The authorities are continuing to review the incident, with the airport pledging to take further action if necessary.
