Police, Coast Guard to Jointly Tackle Extortion: Sakhawat

Shipping and Textiles and Jute Adviser Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain announced today that the police and Bangladesh Coast Guard will work together to combat extortion activities in the region.


During his visit to Bhola, he issued a series of directives aimed at eradicating extortion at river terminals and enhancing security along vital river routes. Sakhawat Hossain, who is on a two-day official visit, is overseeing the selection of a site for a modern launch terminal and jetty, funded by the World Bank.

The adviser also assured that dredging efforts would continue to ensure the river routes in Bhola remain navigable. Additionally, he confirmed that a new Bhola-Monpura ferry service would be launched at an appropriate location.

In attendance at the meeting were Commodore Arif Ahmed Mustafa, Chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Deputy Commissioner Md Azad Jahan, Police Super Shariful Haque, UNO of Daulatkhan Niyati Rani Koiri, and other local officials.

On the first day of his visit, the adviser inspected various river jetties in the Daulatkhan, Tajumuddin, and Monpura upazilas.
